Just announced on the official Halloween Kills Twitter account, the sequel to 2018's Halloween will be released in theaters and on the Peacock streaming platform on October 15th.
I'm not sure what to make of this move. Fans have waited over a year to see Michael Myers on the big screen again and the hype and anticipation are at an almost fever pitch with the release date looming. Venom 2, which was originally scheduled for release the same weekend as Kills and would have certainly taken a big bite out of its box office potential, was recently removed from that slot. If Candyman's healthy take at the box office was any indication, it seemed a no-brainer that Halloween Kills would carve out a highly lucrative opening weekend for itself at the very least.
The move to release the film day-and-date could be Universal and Blumhouse hedging their bets...or it could be them throwing in the towel. What say you?
